I started giving Clare blueberries as soon as they were in season, when she was about 8 months old. They are a great first finger food because they are easy to pick up with little stubby fingers, but also easy to mash with little baby gums. Blueberries aren't related to strawberries and raspberries so I gave them to Clare before 12 months without fear of an allergenic reaction (http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/blueberrybabyfoodrecipes.htm). At 10 months, she eats them fresh and in pancakes; that is a quite a mess but worth the squeals of delight. I cook them with a little sugar for Bailey's oatmeal in the morning and that always gets me an empty breakfast bowl.
I love blueberries.

Hey! Great to see your blog. I look forward to hearing what kind of yummy things you are making. I am looking for some new fun yummy healthy homemade snacks for Corbin if you have any ideas.
Hey Erin! Corbin is almost 1 1/2 I think? So he can eat just about anything except nuts and nut butter. My friend is a dentist and she prefers to limit carbohydrate snacks. I guess pretzels can just sit in the teeth and cause problems. So how about chopped dried apricots with cheese; or apple slices that he can dip in hummus (you might have to peel the apple first); washed large curd whole milk cottage cheese (he can just pick up the curds himself); shelled edamame; cubed tofu sprinkled with nutmeg...
More Blueberries...I made Clare oatmeal yesterday and it was still steaming hot so I folded in some frozen blueberries and it worked great. The blueberries cooled the oatmeal and the oatmeal thawed the blueberries. She signed for more until the bowl was empty!
